Rip off those jeans, and put on those shorts!

27 Apr

boldmode

“Rip off those jeans and put on those shorts” because it is almost summer time, baby! It has finally begun to warm up where I live and I’m really excited to start wearing my shorts! Now when I say shorts, I don’t mean running shorts or knee long jean shorts (LAME.) I mean cute jean shorts! I wouldn’t go for just your plain old blue jean shorties, I would try to be a little more… bold this summer and spring. Go for printed, and colorful, even leather, shorts. May I just add that if your skin is dark or very tan, neon shorts will look amazing on you! Remember that if your shorts are already printed, do not wear a printed top with them unless you really know what you’re doing. Add a cute pair of sandals, flats, or sneakers with your shorts; avoid boots and crocs. If you don’t…

Let’s Talk Make-Up: Gold Eyes

22 Apr

CSC_1063

As of late, I’ve gone out to dinner with friends on the weekends as it is a nice change. Usually the honey and I stay in or stay local. When we first dated I was a newbie to LA and I wanted to go to all the posh mainstream or like my husband says  foo foo restaurants. But ever since we got our furry four-legged kids I’d rather hang out or go to places that are pet friendly.  So during my latest dinner dates out with my friends I decided to change  my look.  I felt sultry seductive sexy eyes was the right fit for a dinner date. Take a peek it’s only 7 steps away.

I used a shade that was two shades darker than my skin on my nose to give it a bit of definition and shine.

Foundation: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer ( love this stuff)

Blush: Mac- Warm Soul

Gloss: Bare Minerals-Charisma

Mascara: Cover Girl

Earrings: Yours truly ( my current fav)

All the colors I used are from the Urban Decay Naked Pallet 1.

1. Apply primer all over eye lids, I love urban decay, it comes in a purple tube.

2. Apply any gold shimmer on eye lids.

3. Apply dark brown only on the corners of your eye, forming a V and fill in.

4 Put a soft ire-decent white in the tear ducks of your eyes to make your eyes pop.

5 Put a natural light brown with a hint of shine under your brow and blend everything together.

6. Put false lashes and  thin eyeliner ( I prefer brown )

7. Voila !!

Let’s Talk Make-up: Contouring

2 Apr

The first time I ever tried to contour my face using make-up was an absolute disaster, granted I was 18 years old and not very skilled at applying bronzer either. Now years later my skills have improved considerably. Contouring is a more advanced make-up application skill that when done right can greatly enhance the structure of your face and add definition. Not everyone needs to contour if you feel that your cheekbones are prominent then do yourself a favor and stay away. Here are a few tips:

ALWAYS choose a cream or powder that is just 2 shades darker than your skin, any darker will look unnatural.
If you use cream to contour make sure to apply after your foundation and before your setting powder.
Use an angled brush.

The most important tip I can give you is to: build on it. It’s okay if you use very little powder, just as long as you build on it.

Don’t forget to highlight, which creates the illusion of bringing a feature forward.
Just like Jennifer Aniston I like to use this technique on my nose.

Keeping it Basic

1 Apr

You know the same feeling you get when you buy a new purse, shoes or make-up, that’s goes for kitchen gadgets as well. I have been on a hunt for a silver tea stand and I finally found it at one of my favorite stores sur la table and this is what I wore while hunting for this gem. I also snagged some kitchen towels and the cutest porcelain strawberry basket. Anything to inspire me to keep my refrigerator clean and organized.

Happy Good Friday Lovelies

29 Mar

I hope most of you are off today and getting ready to start a nice weekend with the family. I saw the most amazing musical last night at the Music Hall down town Detroit, another hidden jewel in the D. The musical is called: The Cross and the Light, it was intense, empowering, and inspiring. The musical walked you through the final hours of Jesus Christ and his Resurrection what a great way to start this Easter weekend.

I am also glad to say that it’s finally starting to look like spring and I am looking forward to wearing spring and summer clothes in silk and chiffon soon. I am loving these flowy pretty pastels featured in InStyle. The accessories, and hair are kept subtle giving it an innocent yet romantic look, what are you loving this spring?

Until next time,
Monica

Easter Nest Egg Treats

28 Mar

Please excuse the lack of posting this week, but we are excited to announce that we are working on a blog make-over! We figured it was time after a year of blogging.

On another note, I am sure you seen these Easter nests pinning around on pinterest, and if you have followed you must know by now that I am a sucker for simple little treats that have character so of course I had to give them a try.

I’m not so sure if they look like nests, but who can go wrong with chocolate covered pretzels.
