Let’s Talk Make-Up: Gold Eyes

22 Apr

CSC_1063

As of late, I’ve gone out to dinner with friends on the weekends as it is a nice change. Usually the honey and I stay in or stay local. When we first dated I was a newbie to LA and I wanted to go to all the posh mainstream or like my husband says  foo foo restaurants. But ever since we got our furry four-legged kids I’d rather hang out or go to places that are pet friendly.  So during my latest dinner dates out with my friends I decided to change  my look.  I felt sultry seductive sexy eyes was the right fit for a dinner date. Take a peek it’s only 7 steps away.

I used a shade that was two shades darker than my skin on my nose to give it a bit of definition and shine.

Foundation: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer ( love this stuff)

Blush: Mac- Warm Soul

Gloss: Bare Minerals-Charisma

Mascara: Cover Girl

Earrings: Yours truly ( my current fav)

All the colors I used are from the Urban Decay Naked Pallet 1.

1. Apply primer all over eye lids, I love urban decay, it comes in a purple tube.

2. Apply any gold shimmer on eye lids.

3. Apply dark brown only on the corners of your eye, forming a V and fill in.

4 Put a soft ire-decent white in the tear ducks of your eyes to make your eyes pop.

5 Put a natural light brown with a hint of shine under your brow and blend everything together.

6. Put false lashes and  thin eyeliner ( I prefer brown )

7. Voila !!

Let’s Talk Make-up: Contouring

2 Apr

The first time I ever tried to contour my face using make-up was an absolute disaster, granted I was 18 years old and not very skilled at applying bronzer either. Now years later my skills have improved considerably. Contouring is a more advanced make-up application skill that when done right can greatly enhance the structure of your face and add definition. Not everyone needs to contour if you feel that your cheekbones are prominent then do yourself a favor and stay away. Here are a few tips:

ALWAYS choose a cream or powder that is just 2 shades darker than your skin, any darker will look unnatural.
If you use cream to contour make sure to apply after your foundation and before your setting powder.
Use an angled brush.

The most important tip I can give you is to: build on it. It’s okay if you use very little powder, just as long as you build on it.

Don’t forget to highlight, which creates the illusion of bringing a feature forward.
Just like Jennifer Aniston I like to use this technique on my nose.

DIY: Sugar and Honey Scrub

21 Mar

I might have shared with you all before that I suffer from dry skin especially during the winter. I am constantly researching natural ingredients for DIY facials, scrubs, and moisturizers and this Sugar & Honey scrub is one of my favorites.

Trust me you will not be disappointed as it exfoliates, and moisturizes your skin and I always find that natural ingredients work best for my skin, who needs added chemicals.

Note: the scrub is good for 30 days and can also be applied to your body especially for the elbows, and heels.

The essentials: Sugar, honey, and olive oil.

You can also learn how I coated my lid with glitter for my bottle here.

Hope you give it a try,
Monica

DIY: Pretty Polish Remover Bottle

21 Feb

The thought of applying nail polish remover to my nails make me cringe every time. For one the smell is unbearable, two my husband gets on my case because of all the harsh chemicals, and three it doesn’t come in the prettiest bottles. The scented ones are somewhat better to handle, but I thought by putting in a prettier bottle it might excite me more to use this beauty essential.

???????????????????????????????

I used Martha Stewart Crafts from Michaels: all-purpose gel adhesive and iridescent glitter in cotton-candy.

Note: I made sure to add a label to prevent any accidents.

Until next time,

Let’s Talk Make-Up: Purple Eyes

30 Oct

As the seasons change we tend to change with it, whether it be the color of our nails, clothes, or make-up, which is why I fell in love with this universal stila pallet. I love the convenience of going from day to night in no time. I decided to go with purple eyes because it can be subtle on the eyes, bright, and goes well with a nude shade for the lips.

Hope you give purple a try.

Lets Talk Make-Up Organization

16 Oct

Hi friends!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! This past weekend was another hot scorching one, everyday I get so excited and find myself eying my sweaters, tights, scarves, boots the list goes on with no luck since the weather has literally been trending in the 90’s. One of the many reasons I moved to LA was because of the weather so I’m definitely not complaining. As seasons’ change we immediately think to clean or organize our closets, but what about our make-up. As I hate to admit I have been one of those people who fall in that category, until my organizer came to the rescue. Take a peek.

DIY Moisterizing Facial

11 Oct

Happy Thursday Lovelies,

Now that the weather has cooled off and it is somewhat drier my face suffers, and although I have a naturally matte look my skin tends to get drier during the fall/winter months. One of my favorite facials during the fall/winter seasons is one you can do at home yourself.

The essentials:

Honey

A ripe banana

Lemon

A cucumber (optional I cut up slices and put them over my eyes).

The finished product.

I followed the instructions here.

I have had several facials at high-end spas, but for some reason I notice more of a difference with the facials I do at home.

I hope you give it a try as it has become essential for my beauty regimen.

Until next time,

Monica

Let’s Talk Make-Up: Teal Eyes

9 Aug

Hello Jewels,

With fall around the corner I tend to wear a lot of neutrals with splashes of colors here and there, and on certain occasions I want my make-up to do all the talking which is when I turn to teal eyes. It’s perfect for day, or night, and it looks great on brunettes, blonds, and red heads.

The essentials:

eye primer (I used MARY KAY because it is my favorite skin care line)
eye shadow in a bone color (Lancome-Latte (Matte))
eye shadow brush (MAC)
eye liner (Flirt-14 Bluephoria)
eye blending brush (MAC 219SE)
eye lash curler (it is a must for the silva sisters because we have straight heavy eye lashes, if it is not necessary for you, you are blessed)!
mascara (Lancome L’EXTREME

Rub the eye primer on both your lower and upper eyelid.

Apply the bone eye shadow all over your eye lids and lightly apply eye liner across the entire upper eyelid and underneath your eye. Smudge with blending brush both underneath and above the eye.

Curl eye lashes if necessary and apply mascara.

The results.

What do you think?

Remember to use a nude lipstick or a very subtle lipstick when wearing color on the eyes. I used my favorite by MAC: Sandy B.

Hope you give it a try.

With love,
Monica

Let’s Talk Make-Up

12 Jul

Hi friends!

I’m back in action! I’m fully recovered from this past weekend and ready for the up coming one!

I’m not much of an eyeshadow person, just give me a slap of color and I’m off but the other day I had the urge to go out and bring my makeup to date.  I was looking around my makeup and no bueno! I had makeup since about 1995!! That’s when I knew there was something wrong with me. I went from a few department stores to Sephora came home with a few items take a peek.

After 10 years I finally realized I need to stick with pallets, they make things easy. I mean how can anyone go wrong with a professionally hand picked pallet of sophisticated colors!!?? Well, if your anything like me, it’s possible. But! In my defense I started playing around with the color and soon I fell in LOVE. So you think I have too much time on my hands ehh? Perhaps, but what if I told you I watch about one hour of T.V a week.

These brushes were meant for me. Their engraved with concealer, blending brush etc., I told you these were meant for me, I can never go wrong with these!!

I’m one of those girls who says, I’ll wash me brushes later. I know, I know that’s not too healthy on the skin, and coming from someone with my skin it’s not a good habit. But we’ll talk about my skin on another post too much to talk about here.

The best concealer, talk about coverage. I have black circles under my eyes, but this stuff makes wonders, use a concealer brush instead of your ring finger you will see a dramatic difference. I swear by this lip balm !!!!!!!!!!!!! What I love best is it doesn’t get sticky and it keeps your lips moisten and plump, trust me you will not be disappointed. finally Nars highlight. This goes on top of your cheek bones and on your nose, I only use this when I’m going out for the evening. It gives you a soft glow, trust me, you will become addicted to it.

If your anything like me, you need coverage. I have a lot of acne scars and this seems to do the trick. I only wear this during my night outs with the honey. During the day it’s all about mascara, some powder and a bright lip and I’m on my way.

What do you think of my first smoky eye? Not too shabby!

Hope I gave you some helpful tips.

As always, Carolina xoxo
