Wigs 4 Kids and Terrence Davidson

7 Mar

I love attending charities with great causes whether it is in the arts or providing services for anyone in need like the Wigs 4 Kids fashion show I just attended in honor of the Celebrity Wig Master: Terrence Davidson the man behind Nicki Minaj’s wigs.

Wigs 4 Kids provides services and support to children who are in need of hair replacement due to health challenges such as cancer and Terrence Davidson was nice enough to contribute wigs to some of these children.

To see these children smile and glow through this opportunity was such an eye waking experience I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. It is not only about hair it also gives them the opportunity to be socially accepted by their peers and builds up their self-esteem as they journey through their health challenges, and thanks to Terrence these children have the opportunity to have a sense of belonging.

What a rewarding feeling Terrence must have fault when he saw the children wearing his wigs. I have to applaud Terrence for being part of this wonderful organization and for flying to the metro Detroit area to meet the children in my little home town St. Clair Shores, MI which I am sure they will never forget. Experiences like this help me realize how fortunate I am to have my health which nothing in the world could make up for and that I need to be doing more to make a difference which is why I will be getting together with a small group of women this evening and putting together Easter baskets for the homeless. We were raised to contribute our gifts as our mother has taught catechism for over twenty years, and say what you will about the Catholic church, for all we know is that our mother contributes from the goodness of heart, and has impacted many children. Any little act of service to bring a smile to the unfortunate also brings a smile to my face, as my sister and I say “it is the little things that we consider the true jewels of life.”

Thank you all for letting me share my humbling experience with you.

Until next time,

Tribute to the USA

6 Nov

All Americans know what today is and in honor of being American I thought I would do a tribute to some of the most important people who formed this country.

Last year I had the privilege to attend the dedication of the Martin Luther King memorial take a peek.

Me standing in front of the master piece.

President Obama’s dedication to the Martin Luther King memorial.

Thank you Abraham Lincoln for ending slavery.

Pretending to be Jackie O. in front of the White House.

Posing next to Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) the only president to be elected for more than two terms.

My husband posing to the author of the Declaration of Independence: Thomas Jefferson.

I feel truly blessed to be living in a country that offers freedom, and true democracy and I am optimistic that this country will persevere.

Don’t forget to vote and may God bless this country,

California Recap

2 Nov

TGIF Jewels,

It has been two days since I have been back from California, and I am already missing being away from family, friends, and the weather of course, and here are a couple of things I enjoyed during my stay.

We are from the central coast known for its mild climate and everything is grown fresh like these veggies in this basket.

Quality time with mom and dad and eating at the Far Western Tavern known for its contemporary California ranch cuisine inspired by local traditions, and featured in Sunset Magazine, and by Bobby Flay.

Celebrated Halloween with close friends and wine tasting at our friend’s mom’s taste room: Lucia’s.

The beautiful beaches of course.

And catching up with my best friend and dressing up for Halloween like our younger days.

I am a sucker for small town charm which is why I love the central coast there will never be a place like home.

Until next time friends,

Quality time with Dad at the beach.

Celebrated Dad’s 65th birthday. (He retired from the railroad hence the train cake).

Until next time,

Italian Coast.

Hello from the Italian coast again!

Who needs an apple as a snack when you can snack on mozzarella cheese! This became a tradition for my honey and I. A small bottle of wine, mozzarella cheese, curd meat, and we ready to sight-see and enjoy this amazing paradise.
I bought a cute pair of gold metallic leather flats in Florence, take a peek. What do you think friends?

Kiss, kiss, bye, bye Sorrento!

Happy Monday friends!

Ciao! From Sorrento

14 Sep

Ciao from Italy’s coast. Our plan is to visit: Sorrento, Capri, Positano, and Amalfi.

Here we are at the first city on our list Sorrento. A city full of life, tourists, great weather, serene panoramic views,  locals and fresh seafood. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

An Italian gentlemen jumped in the picture while taking photos of these lemons. As he says “I only take photos for nice girls,” (what a sweet man). The Italian coast is known for lemons, huge enormous lemons as you can see above. I soon realized this was the perfect town for me, you see we grew up with lemons. Lemon on salad, lemon ice cream, lemon cocktails, you name it. It was all here, hundreds and hundreds of lemon stores.

The best Italian curd meat Capicola love, love, love!

You already know how I feel about bite size treats, and this little muffin and espresso duo did the trick. Super yummy and super cute.

Me, this is the best pose I can do.

Robolita Italian vegetable soup. I’ve about had this five times, talk about burst of flavors herbs and cheese.  I can’t wait to make this dish at home, It probably won’t be as good, I’ll get it right perhaps on my third attempt, trust me it will be well worth the work.

Ciao from Sorrento!

CIAO! From Rome

12 Sep

Some say Italy some say Eataly and let me tell you we have been doing a lot of  eating, walking and shopping. I’ll be honest, Ive been a little overwhelmed with all the many different piazzas, fountains, churches and art museums we’ve been going to. My husband on the other hand can literally open and close a museum we’ve literally been in a museum no less then 3 hours one even five hours!!! I honestly can’t wait for dinner everyday. Take a peek at my picture below, you’ll see what I mean. Enjoy

Finally, hanging out and people watching.

I was a little too excited to see the food coming. I always look  forward to this time of the day.

The biggest Pecorino Ive seen.

Rome’s Specialty dish, amatriciana, I can’t wait to make this at home.
By the way, thank you for your nice comments, I can’t wait to reply once I return.

CIAO From Florence

10 Sep

Happy Monday friends!

Here we are today enjoying Florence a magical place full of life, friendly locals, beautiful people, great food and the best of the best art. Honey and I walked and walked throughout the city where piazza’s ruled with enormous size sculptures, fountains and many many restorantes. My favorite time is during the evening, it’s like as if I was whisked away to Never Never Land for adults with violinist, vino rosso and candle light settings everywhere, wish you were here!

Enjoying our walk in this gorgeous city while a guitarist plays.

Hope you are enjoying these pictures, if I don’t reply back to your warm comments that’s because I have no access to the internet. Talk to you soon friends!

By the way, I’ve only have gained 2 pounds which is quite surprising since my weight fluctuates all the time, I figure I would at least gain 10 pounds while on vacation, which is always the case, perhaps I’m being a little cautious because I have my very good friend’s Santa Barbara wedding this coming Saturday. Whoa! I can’t wait to return home and to  my back to basic Saturday’s.

As always, Carolina

CIAO! From San Gimignano!

7 Sep

CIAO friends!

I knew I was in for a history and art lesson while in Italy, but never did I imagine it a museum. Everywhere I look there’s history. Take a peek friends!

Here we are in Tuscany, a world in its own. This is my version of heaven on earth, majestic views that go on and on, greenery everywhere, beautiful hills, with an abundance of olive trees and vineyards. Because I was raised in a small town, I enjoy small town charm and I tend to gravitate towards my roots.

Breakfast overlooking San Gimignano, Tuscany.

I love this little intimate romantic city.

Arrevedeci from Tuscany!
