Brainy Blueberry Scones

16 May

Good day Dazzling Diamonds,

It used to be that I would sit in a cubical and part of my morning ritual was to try to incorporate the brainy blueberries into my diet which most of time was a quick fix morning meal, boring! I used to add them to my yogurt, oatmeal, and occasionally to my Cheerios before I left to work. Now a days I try to find as many recipes as possible to include them into, from, cheesecakes, to adding them to my crepes, milkshakes, etc.

And most recently it was scones. I love scones and I had a craving for them, it was so bad that it needed to be satisfied yesterday. I asked my husband to stop by at Panera and pick up a Blueberry Scone, and unfortunately I was disappointed. Don’t get me wrong I love Panera, but the scones I am used to are usually baked at a cozy Bed and Breakfast and are unforgettable!

I did what I had to, to satisfy my own craving and bake them myself.
I must say I was impressed with the results, my husband had five pieces throughout the day. I recently took on the job as a baker because my husband loves sweets, but I have a rule. I only bake every other week because my husband has a major sweet tooth, he is the type that can eat dessert everyday. Our dinner dates usually consist of eating dinner and heading out for dessert and tea after, I don’t mind as I do love my tea.

Luckily for me I had to drop off my friend at the airport the morning I baked them and of course I had to drop her off with a couple of pieces as I did not want to have them around the house too long. Who wouldn’t want to be dropped off at the airport with something freshly baked as I usually head to Starbucks for a baked good and tea while I am at the airport.

Now I can add blueberry scones to my “Brainy Blueberry Recipe List.”

The essential ingredients and recipe you can find here my friends.

Thank you for stopping by,

Work Inspired Pants

15 May

I bought these pants for work, and if you been following me you already know how on most days I try to intermix my corporate clothes with my social clothes. My pale pink dressy pants can be a little to sophisticated for an ordinary day, but throw on a casual button up and Viola, it ties the look together. It’s all about having a cohesive balance between colors that offset each other and since both were in the muted family I had to give my shoes a pop of color. As you know, I’m a sucker for pops of color. I chose a caramel color purse to soften the bright shoes, in addition I went for a polished hairstyle to dress up my button up.  Finally, to give my pants a bit of a rough up look I grabbed my cow bone necklace from yours truly essentjewels!

When Grey

14 May

When it is grey out.

Wear flowers in your hair.

Walk your dog with her brightest sweater.

Wear your clothes from front to back.

Watch for bird blessings.

And pat yourself on the back because you know it is going to be alright.

Grey cashmere sweater dress: bebe, (now that I am in my mid 30s I stopped buying from bebe, but when I found out they started selling cashmere I was in there in no time) bracelet grace, and my best accessory Mocha my dog, (my husband is going to kill me for referring to her as an accessory, but she literally gets all the attention).

Purse: Coach, and flower in my hair J.Crew which I occasionally wear on my blazers. I love accessories that serve multiple purposes.

A Robin watching over her chicks greeted us this morning. One thing I learned from our Dad was to take time to smell the roses, and in his case it is the birds, he loves to bird watch. He and mom came out to visit me here in the MI from California a while back and I loved how much he appreciated the birds which I appreciated from him, thank you Dad and thank you God for reminding me that you are watching over me and for Mocha not going after her! We would like for her to remain our neighbor for a couple of days.

Ankles Booties: Coach, I love these, but “Coach I wish you wouldn’t manufacture these with leather on the heels, and would have used wood instead, I have damaged several of your boots because of the leather on the heels.”

And necklace from our upcoming line: Rose Pedals

Colored Jeans

11 May

Blouse: Vince Camuto, Jeans: Bella Dahl, Nordstrom, Belt: Banana Republic, Shoes: Nine West, Sunnies: House of Harlow, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacob, Jewelry: essentjewels.

I wore this to my weekly Sunday brunch which I was excited to wear these blue jeans, but I knew I had to tone them down with not only my blouse but my hair and jewelry as well. I opted for a side bun hairstyle, it has a sophisticated twist to it, I knew I couldn’t get away with busy jewelry, let alone not having a set. So I chose this classic set which pulled my look together while giving it a soft touch with a hint of edge.

Essentjewels: Sweet

My amazing in laws. XO

I ended my day by going to the Spring Garden sale at the Huntington Library. While I was there I met this exquisite looking Aeonium who I had to take home. She said to me that she is excited to meet her new brothers and sister who live in our garden. Sorry my friends, I do tend to talk to my lovely plants.

Happy Friday Lovelies!

As always, Carolina xoxo

Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini

10 May

The temperature was in the near 90s here in Michigan and all I had on my mind was the “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” and drinks at the beach.

So I tried my best to make it happen. I put on my yellow polka-dotted blouse by Do & Be, aviators: Ray-Bans, 7 for all man kind dark navy blue jeans, and shoes Joan David rose ring: essentjewels.

And I met one of my best friends for drinks who greeted me with a warm smile wearing our glimmer earrings.

I can’t explain the joy it brings to see my friends supporting our work.

Jewels, what are the simple pleasures of life that bring you joy, we want to know?

Until next time,

A Hint Of Neon

9 May

So I’ve jumped on the neon wagon.  Neon colors are everywhere, who can resist? I wore  a classic white T and the high wasted pants that we see come and go every few years. I wanted to look simple but my out fit needed some umph, what other way to dress up my outfit then with a pop of color. Meet my newest member, the neon pink belt.

Jewelry: essentjewels cuff, Sunnies: Cole Haan, White T: Patterson J Kincaid,  Belt: J Crew, Jeans: Free People, Purse: Marc by Marc Jacob. Watch: Michael Kors.

As always Carolina, xoxo

Truffle And Pancetta Pasta

7 May

I have no idea when was the first time I tried anything made with truffles, but I do remember my love for truffles started with the movie No Reservations. I can watch that movie over and over.

Truffles have a distinctive scent and taste that is indescribable, and make any dish the most delicious thing you will ever experience in your lifetime.  Unfortunately truffles are pricey, and usually reserved for a special night out but I felt the urge to splurge and make this dish on an ordinary Wednesday and it was well worth it.

The nutty, savory and buttery flavor of the truffle oil goes perfect with the pancetta. The first time I made it, it was exactly like the recipe I found here Truffle Butter Pasta, but as you know I change recipes at times. I customized it to mine and my husbands taste as I added both pancetta and mascrapon cheese since it is a must when making a pasta dish.

For this dish there is no option but to use great pasta, a bit pricey, but trust me you will have left overs for another special night.

You don’t have to use this, but I did and  it gave it an extra umph.

Amazingly good and the texture of this pasta is heavenly. Excuse me while I go enjoy my grown up pasta.

As always, Carolina, xoxo

I Finally Made It

3 May

Good morning Gorgeous Gems,

We grew up eating Tres Leches for special occasions just like in most Latin American households, and it wasn’t until my formal co-worker from Russia asked me if I knew how to make it that it sparked an interest to attempt to. On and on she went about how it is her favorite cake and because I took it for granted of course I had never tried in the past. Well of course the right time never came along, so this year I made it a priority to learn how to before Cinco de Mayo, and boy was it a success my husband loved it (and he is not easily pleased).

At first I thought I over baked it because of the color when I flipped it.

The three milks combined hence why it is called “Tres Leches.”

I would say the whip cream is thick enough!

The cake was extremely moist and the three milks spread evenly. Don’t you just love it when first attempts are a success? With that being said I will continue on with the tradition of enjoying this delicacy of a cake for future occasions (next time I am adding rum).

Now please excuse me while I enjoy my lovely piece of cake.

Almost forgot the essential ingredients and recipe can be found here.

Hope you give it a try as it so worth the effort,
